SecureAPlus 6.5.0 release notes

21 December 2020

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 6.5.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Driver crashed at when running Qsync.exe
  • Double pop-up when non-trusted user changes trust by digital signature mode
  • In hardened Windows, when non admin user changes the setting, the user keep get prompted by Windows.
  • APEX Update textbox glitch
  • Broken link in SecureAPlus Client UI, when click on “View via browser“
  • SecureAPlus main console shows Auto mode when SAP client in Silent mode. It supposed to be in lockdown mode.


Modifications:

  • Optimization in the files trusted by trusted installer.
  • Optimization in the entries written to SecureAPlus.log
  • Do not show “Downloaded: <bytes>” in Antivirus.log when performing APEX update.
  • Vulnerability Assessment: it will only show OS/.NET vuln should the “more info” be clicked at its respective row
  • Reduce the requirement to reboot after installation.
  • Reinstalling the same version does not require reboot.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 6.4.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Added msedge.exe into restricted applications

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 6.3.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Avira and “Vulnerability Assessment” were not uninstalled cleanly
  • SAP without UAV with Avira still shows UAV results in UAV bar when online
  • SecureAPlus was not registered as AntiVirus
  • Real-time antivirus scan prompt does not appear for Word doc virus, if it is only detected by UAV.
  • App Whitelisting dialog too tall
  • The log for Blocked command line does not have length and hash for the command line that the action other than “Always Block”
  • Tray icon only changes when changing App Whitelisting mode from tray icon menu
  • Simplified and traditional Chinese: “Interactive” text on main UI is different from the text in tray icon menu

Modifications:

  • Change minimum sending log interval from 1 minute to 15 minutes
  • Change log formatting, so that it will be easier for parsing at the server.
  • Reduce whitelist.log during initial whitelist.
  • When real-time scanning is off, UAV real-time scanning will be shown as off too.
  • Archive log file when it is > 50MB.
    Previously only if it is > 100MB


What’s New:

  • Send software inventory information to the server
  • Added reg.exe into the restricted application list
  • Vulnerability Assessment supports software that only installed for the current user.
  • Auto Mode
    New installation: default mode is auto mode
    Upgrade: the settings will not be changed. If the previous mode is the interactive mode, it will remain as interactive
    Auto mode will make a decision based on “Digital Signature”, APEX, UAV.
    There are some situations where there is not enough information for Auto Mode to make a decision.
    In this case, the user will still see prompting.
  • Updated German translation for Vulnerability Assessment.
  • Added into the trusted certificate list: “Zoom Video Communication Inc”, “Deluxe Pixel Limited.”
  • Check Linux permission attributes. If it doesn’t have executable permission (x), do not need to block the file if it is untrusted.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 6.2.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • The following command line was not automatically trusted: C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -NonInteractive -NoProfile -WindowStyle Hidden “& C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\SmbShare\DisableUnusedSmb1.ps1 -Scenario Client”.
  • Windows 7 without Service Pack 1 was not able to boot up after updating from SAP v6.0.3 to v6.1.0.
  • SecureAPlusService.exe is not running in some machines.
  • In the Polish language, “Continue blocking” words in Command-Line blocking was cut off.


Modifications:

  • For the script file, the GUI used to show the interpreter as the process name. Now it will show the parent process of the interpreter as the process name.
  • “Go to log location” will only open “C:\ProgramData\SecureAge Technology\SecureAge\log” folder only. Previously it will also open the log folder in %localappdata%
  • Shows Japanese EULA in Japanese OS.
  • Updated Italian translation.
  • KB3033929 was not installed in Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
  • Do not show “Online Store” for SecureAPlus managed by Portal.
  • In interactive mode, no command-line blocked prompt shown in Windows Server 2016 & 2019, when running untrusted command line.


What’s New:

  • New dialog when blocking untrusted file, with Recommended Action.
  • Vulnerability Assessment.
  • Automatically trust untrusted data during boot-up if there was an indication that there was Windows update happened before boot-up, and it required reboot.
  • Besides whitelist.log, untrusted data that is supposed to be blocked, but not stuck in the observation mode is now written in blocked.log.
  • Allow the trusted installer to run any command line.
  • The trusted application that is signed by a trusted certificate is allowed to run any command line and script.
  • No longer support ClamAV.
  • Added “tortoiseproc.exe” into the restricted application list.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 6.1.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Announcement was not using the new SecureAPlus 2019 theme.
  •  Italian translation for silent mode fixed to modalità silenziosa.
  • c:\windows\system32\winspool.drv gets blocked when it is updated.
  • Timed out when querying for Approved Whitelist/Global Whitelist. This bug has started from SecureAPlus v6.0.3.
  • System hang during Windows Update.


Modifications:

  • Announcement will open external link using external browser.
  • New applications are only signed using SHA256 hash. Previously it was dual signed using SHA1 and SHA256.
  • Automatically trust Windows Update files for non-trusted users.
  • Non-trusted users are able to request for an approval, if they are running an untrusted .msi file.

Due to the changes in v6.0.0, non-trusted users were not able to request for whitelist approval for .msi file.

  • Hide some advanced settings from non-trusted users.

Improve password protection coverage:

  • Prompt for password before opening SecureAPlus main console.
  • Prompt for password if user intended to uninstall SecureAPlus.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 5.4.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • If there is no internet connection, the Full System Scan button will disappear when it is clicked in the “View UAV Status.”
  • Hover button background color is the same as the icon color, which causes the icon to be invisible (This bug started from SecureAPlus version 5.3.8)
  • When moving blocked file dialog for a non-trusted account user, there will be double line appearing at the bottom of the dialog.
  • SAScanner.exe crashed on some occasions.
  • The typo: “You account is not in the trusted account list…” was corrected to: “Your account is not in the trusted account list…”

Bugs Fixed:

  • APEX Model version showing the value 0.0.


Modifications:

  • Automatically filter off Universal AV result that most likely is to be false positive.
  • If there is any untrusted file during boot-up, and the file can be trusted by the digital signature (depending on the settings), SecureAPlus will automatically trust the file without prompting.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 5.3.1.

Bugs Fixed:

  • When there is no internet connection, Universal AV will display a message that it is unable to connect to the server.Subsequent attempt to do a manual full system scan by clicking on the “Full System Scan” button will fail, even if the internet connection has been available.
  • Import USB whitelist will overwrite USB read-write settings because USB read-write setting was saved by the export function.Export USB whitelist now will exclude read-write settings.


Enhancement:

  • When there is no internet connection, Universal AV client will retry to reconnect at the background.


hat’s New:

  • SecureAPlus update is able to resume the download even if the computer is rebooted.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 5.3.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • If Universal AV is disabled for real-time scanning, the result from Universal AV was still shown (This bug is started from SecureAPlus v5.2.0).
  • In a certain situation, Universal AV full system scan keep waiting indefinitely.
  • In the real-time scanning, if the offline av did not detect a file as a virus, but Universal AV did, the total engine shown was 0 (This bug is started from SecureAPlus v5.2.0).
  • Silent mode uninstallation doesn’t work.
  • Some APEX’s files were not removed during the uninstallation.
  • Universal AV keep showing Error 12007, even after the internet connection is already available.


Enhancement:

  • At Universal AV, Scan Settings, Change “On Demand Scanning” to “Universal AV On Demand Scanning”
  • At Universal AV, Scan Settings, Change “Real-time Scanning” to “Universal AV Real-time Scanning”

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 5.2.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Dialog that prompt for untrusted files during boot-up did not scale properly at high resolution screen.

  • For real time scanning, the result will be immediately shown when any of the offline antivirus engine detected it as a virus, without waiting for Universal AV to response.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 5.1.0. In this version, we officially launched our first offline antivirus engine that based on deep learning, APEX.

For Windows Vista onwards, APEX will be the default offline antivirus engine, instead of ClamAV.

Bugs Fixed:

  • When UAV periodic scanning is disabled, setting daily limit failed.
  • Fixed deadlock in driver when temporary set the process trust level to be the same as the script.
  • Fixed crashed in Windows Subsystem for Linux when doing apt-get update.
  • Some Linux files are not trusted after apt-get install
  • Trust level was not carried forward to a new file when creating hard link for non PE (Portable Executable) files.
  • Switch “Universal AV Full System Scan” from disabled to enabled, the text still showed “Unviersal AV is disabled”.


Enhancement:

  • Disable ClamAV if APEX is not installed yet. By Default APEX is the engine that will be used as offline AV.
  • Remove the question to ask permission to upload any type of file when manual scanner is used for the first time. By default the setting will allow to upload executable files only.
  • Remove the user id verification when adding user into the trusted user account.
  • Adjust command line rules column size to fit the content.
  • The default setting when a USB storage is inserted is do not prompt. Previously the default setting was prompt user whether to scan the USB storage device.
  • Reduce some client retry requests when the client encountered error when accessing Universal AV server.
  • Change “Universal AV Periodic Scanning” to “Universal AV Full System Scan” at Universal AV -> Scan Settings. The description is also changed.
  • Change the description for Universal AV On Demand Scanning:
    “Uses cloud antivirus engines for on demand scanning.” to “Use Universal AV for manual scanning of files and folders (right click, scan)”
  • Change “Universal AV is disabled” to “Universal AV Full System Scan is disabled”
  • SecureAPlus keeps retrying full system scan when it cannot connect to the server. Modified this so that it will not continuously retry when it is unable to connect to the server.


What’s New:

  • Offline antivirus powered by deep learning, APEX (for Vista onwards).
  • Japanese translation for some new text.
  • SecureAPlusSetup.exe (online installer) supports mass installation
  • Added dmaster.exe and onedrive.exe in the restricted application list.
  • Auto archive whitelist.log file when it is > 100,000,000 bytes. The archive will be saved in 7z format.
  • Older archives will be automatically deleted after 1 year or more.
  • ClamAV version 0.100.2 (for Vista onwards).

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 4.12.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Fixed crashed in sanotifier.exe
  • Fixed crashed in Universal AV
  • Some of the whitelisted command lines, which contain some special characters, were not shown in the SecureAPlusUI
  • When ClamAV is uninstalled, update virus signature is giving an error because freshclam.exe can no longer be found

Bugs Fixed:

  • Freeze issue when script interpreter process name is set to *
  • SecureAPlus icon was not shown in some of the notification windows.
  • Some text in the UAV scanning for the unknown file in the application whitelisting notification was not translated into foreign languages.


Enhancement:

  • When asking for permission to upload files, Yes and No buttons are not translated to foreign language.

Enhancement:

  • Change edit box context menu color, for selected text, the text color is changed from white to black, and the background Is set to blue.
  • When the computer is just rebooted, stop updating Security Center if SecureAPlus detects that it has been registered in the Security Center.

  • When one of the checked item is unckecked, the select/unselect all checkbox will also be unchecked.

Bugs Fixed:

  • After disabling everything at Antivirus Settings, when re-enabling them, Windows Defender is enabled (tested in Windows 10 Fall Creators update, v1709).
  • When changing Application Whitelisting Mode failed in the SecureAPlusUI, the UI will still show the successfully changed new mode.
  • Fixed “File index service is not ready” issue in the Universal AV scanning.
  • In some machines, SURU flash drive virtual CD partition was unable to mount for the second time insertion onwards.

Bugs Fixed:

  • For SecureAPlus managed by SecureAge Management Server (SMS), some temporary files were not deleted.
  • When multiple items are selected, “Show all trust level” only shows one of them.
  • Crash in sanotifier when checking with VirusTotal.
  • Fixed bug in counting the number of remaining files in the real-time immediate scanning, that caused the manual scanner keep scanning.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Crash in SecureAPlus.exe when it is unable to communicate with the server. This bug starts from v4.2.1.
  • Crash in Windows 2016 Technical Preview version 5, when Windows is accessing a volume with ReFS file system.

  • When an action is taken for UAV manual scanning, the engine name was recorded wrongly.


Enhancement:

  • In the Quarantine and history, change a column name, from “Item” to “Virus name”


What’s New:

  • Universal AV engine exclusion. Currently only the following engines are allowed to be disabled: AVG, ClamWin, Norman, QuickHeal, TotalDefense.
  • Universal AV can be used to scan .vbs files in manual or real-time scanning.

We’re pleased to present SecureAPlus 3.3.0.

Bugs Fixed:

  • During uninstallation, some temporary files were not deleted.
  • EverythingServer uses 50% CPU when multiple users login using Remote Desktop.
  • For manual scanner, when an action is taken, the status was not written at the correct column.
  • Crash when scanning using Dr.Web CureIt!


Enhancement:

  • Change the search file engine for Universal AV.
  • SecureAPlus UI will show lockdown mode for non-trusted account users.
  • For full system scan, previously the very long file name is shown with elipsis at the end of the file name. Change the elipsis to the middle of the file name.
  • Improve Compact Whitelist speed.
  • SecureAPlus initial system scan will automatically slow down if the computer is not in idle state, and it will speed up again when there is no activity from the user.
  • Reduce the memory usage by the initial full system scan.


What’s New:

  • Added more log for Universal AV.
  • Compact whitelist will also trigger Universal AV server to refresh the whitelist database.
